Your Careers

In the hospitality industry, professionals spend years honing their skills, gaining hands-on experience, and building their careers in a fast-paced environment. A typical job interview, however, lasts just sixty minutes—and that hour can significantly influence the direction of your career. In this context, an interview becomes one of the most important hours of your professional life.

Interviews are unique situations where you must clearly communicate your technical skills, personality, and work ethic, all while learning about the venue, its culture, and the role itself. At Hospitality Careers, we’ll coach you on how to prepare effectively, ensuring you walk into every interview with confidence.

Preparing for Your Interview

Focus your preparation on two key areas: the organisation and the position.

Research the Organisation

Understand key details about the venue or company—its size, reputation, number of locations, signature offerings, and ownership structure. Knowing the organisation’s culture and values will also help you tailor your responses to align with what they’re looking for in a team member.

Understand the Role

Familiarise yourself with the key responsibilities of the position and reflect on how your skills and experiences align with these requirements. Be ready with clear, concise examples that demonstrate your ability to succeed in the role, whether it’s managing a team, handling high-pressure service environments, or delivering exceptional guest experiences.

Nailing the Interview

You’ll typically have sixty minutes to present yourself and gather insights about the role—make every minute count.

At Hospitality Careers, we recommend approaching the interview like a business case. You’re essentially presenting a case that you’re the best candidate for the position.

Be prepared to pitch the highlights of your experience, skills, and achievements in a way that directly addresses the employer’s needs. Show them not just why you’re qualified, but why you’re the perfect fit for their team.
